With the recent tradition of adding in characters in other franchises to the wrong universe, NetherRealm Studios’ Ed Boon revealed that Mortal Kombat X will feature “at least” one character from outside the Kombat realm in the coming fighter.
Boon is no amateur when it comes to guest characters, as this announcement will reveal NetherRealms’ third in three games which will feature a guest character. Mortal Kombat hosted the PlayStation exclusive Kratos, God of War during NetherRealm Studio’s first title run. Added in as downloadable content during MK’s first run, Freddie Kruger of Nightmare on Elm Street made his way to the tournament. Later, with the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us, Boon and company played on their own glory with the inclusion of Scorpion into the DC universe.
Given his storied history, Boon is working on a trend started notably by Soul Calibur’s inclusion of platform-exclusive Star Wars characters in Yoda and Darth Vader. Thankfully, we expect Boon to spread the love this time, unless Microsoft has something to offer exclusively to the IP. I wouldn’t mind using the Master Chief to shove a sticky grenade inside your spinal column.
Mortal Kombat X is set to release on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC some time in 2015. For more information on Mortal Kombat, check out our other posts or visit MortalKombat.com
