Perfect World Entertainment Inc., one of the leading publishers in Free-to-Play MMO’s has announced today that Cryptic Studios will be bringing Neverwinter to the Xbox One. This will be a free to play game, but only to those with a gold membership.

With mounting pressure from Sony’s Playstation 4 and their free to play line up; DC Universe Online, War Frame, Planetside 2 (before the end of 2014) just to name a few. This is a step in the right direction for Microsoft. I myself have gone back to playing Neverwinter on the PC via Steam and have found myself actually enjoying the game again. Of course there is a down side to this, Microsoft has stated that it will not allow cross platform servers. I find this very frustrating to the point that why bother adding MMO’s if your not going to allow people to play with all of their friends.

Neverwinter is an action based combat MMORPG that takes place in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe. It has deeply enriched narrative and dialog that holds true to its D&D roots, keeping its players interested through its story and many compelling dungeons. Some of which are created by the players. It released in the summer of 2013 and its fan base continues to grow with its fourth and most recent expansion, Tyranny of Dragons.

Nathan Stewart, Dungeons & Dragons Brand Director, had this to say about Neverwinter coming to the Xbox One:

The addition of the new platforms is another piece of exciting news for Dungeons & Dragons fans in this pivotal year. Also we will continue to work closely with Perfect World and Cryptic Studios to bring exciting new stories to players around the world.

So it’s nice to see a good MMORPG coming to the Xbox One. I look forward to seeing what they have lined up next for us all.
