Officially announced by NetherRealm Studios today, right on schedule, Mortal Kombat X is coming. Given a brand new trailer, asking “Who’s Next,” the next Mortal Kombat in series appears to feature an all-new engine developed for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation of consoles.
Scheduled for a 2015 release on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles, the next version of Kombat will miss Nintendo consoles yet again, but will make an appearance on the PC, and will be detailed at this year’s E3 conference in 2014. Some minor details have been given in an official press release today along side the official trailer.
“Mortal Kombat is our acclaimed, world-renowned franchise and we are now advancing the fighting genre with Mortal Kombat X. NetherRealm Studios is best in class at delivering games fans love and they are taking their iconic brand to the next level with Mortal Kombat X.” – Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
“Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilize the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet. The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine.” – Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios.
Mortal Kombat will deliver cinematic presentation with all-new game play to offer up “the most brutal Kombat experience ever,” and if the trailer is any indication of this action, that may well bring the most intense battles to date. Kombat X will also feature a fully-connected experience which puts players in persistent online competition in “a global battle for supremacy.” While in online Kombat throughout, players will have their choice of multiple variations of each character. This directly impacts both strategy and fighting style, allowing for similar elements as seen in the Marvel vs Capcom fighting universe, with the heavy game play of the MK series. Mortal Kombat X will also feature an all-original story, which showcases the title’s most well known characters, such as Sub Zero and Scorpion.
