During Sony’s Gamescom 2014 presentation, Sony announced a feature that was actually announced before the release of the PlayStation 4 but is now just coming to light. That would be Share Play and it is the ability to play with other PS Plus members as if they were sitting right next to you. They don’t even need to own the game you are playing either.
Essentially you would be assigning a controller to your friend so that they can play with you anywhere in the world. Players will also we able to “pass” their controller to their friend so that they can continue the game. It’s actually a great way to share a game that your friend might not have been able to get or would just like to try out.
Now this is a feature that was originally planned for the PS4, but now we know that Share Play will be coming soon and will require both players to have PS Plus. Players that don’t own the game that is being shared also do not have to download the game in order to play with their friends. It is a great technology that opens up many paths for gamers worldwide. The only issues that I can see are with games that require quick reactions and how latency will affect those players. It might not be such a great idea to Share Play games that require precise timing to execute actions, but it should be perfect for games that are less strict.
