Beginning on Friday, March 7th, Call of Duty: Ghosts is set to allow for free-to-play action in multiplayer while the game goes on sale at an undisclosed price point.

Offering up access to multiplayer in Team Deathmatch and Domination, across three maps — Strike Zone, Warhawk, and Prison Break, gamers will also have the option of purchasing the full digital game at a “discounted price” for a limited time. If shooting players isn’t your thing, but you still enjoy playing with your friends, the game’s “Extinction” mode will also be available to play during this weekend trial.

Call of Duty: Ghosts’ trial period may not be a one-time event, as the game’s “Onslaught” DLC package was listed in the same leaked document detailing the March 7th event. Going out on March 21st, players may have the opportunity to play all the DLC available in the package – though it is presumed that you must own Ghosts to be eligible for this trial.

Yet still, the document linked directly to images of the “Makarov Legend Pack”, packing in four new characters for use in Multiplayer – launching on March 4th. More details regarding the game’s season pass features are packed within the document, including the “Team Leader Digital Pack” and “The Ripper”, a possible in-game weapon. Links into official images helped emphasize the validity of the document, though sources for its origin are still unknown.

Is it at all possible that Activision knows that the Call of Duty series is faltering, with the surprising success of Battlefield 4, despite all of its flaws? Either way, free-to-play is never a negative.
