Martial arts and film legend Jet Li recently sat down and spoke about his gaming experiences at a PvP Tournament for Age of Wushu. Jet Li was asked about his gaming experiences and told the interviewer about how he started playing games while shooting his second movie at the age of 20 any time that he wasn’t filming. Which is awesome to hear that this martial arts legend loved video games like the rest of us! The interviewer then turned towards the question of virtual gaming being considered a sport. Jet Li being a former National Wushu Champion mind you had this to say on the subject:
“If poker card games and chess both have the players sitting down and are considered sports, why not virtual gaming as well? There are 2 kinds of sports, 1 physical and 1 mental. There is no good reason to debunk virtual gaming as a sport, and I believe the participants of such virtual PvP events have the same mentality as physical athletes.”
I hope that the idea of mental sports will become more wide spread in the future so that we can see more mainstream interest in competitive gaming. Check out the full article in the sources.
