Combining monsters, blood, guts, violence, and football was the simple formula behind one of the most successful sports games more than 20 years ago from the age of the Sega Genesis. Mutant League Football was published by Electronic Arts in 1993 and quickly became a #1 best seller of it’s time. Unfortunately there hasn’t been a continuation on this series since it’s initial release. Until now!

Digital Dreams Entertainment has picked up the ball and has begun developing a reboot of the iconic game and will have an early version of the game available at PAX Prime this year.  The series’ original creator, Michael Mendheim, will be leading the project and will see development for PC/Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and mobile devices with 4-player online multiplayer.

The new reboot to the franchise is loaded with nostalgia for older gamers, but still has some appeal for new generations. While the music and game sounds may feel a bit under developed and lacking, they really do hold true to the original game and time. Players will enjoy tearing their opponents limb from limb while they navigate arenas of death through their journey in the Mutant League.

Now, the game is still in the pre-alpha phase and there are obvious flaws that and visual improvements that need to made. For now, we’ll look forward to seeing Mutant League Football go through the development process.
